I stumbled on your website the other day and was blown away. There's more information about American racetracks than I have ever seen before in one place. I love it!
I too am a fan. I have been to 92 racetracks now in 31 states and 8 foreign countries and plan on another 8 this year.
I call it my "Quest to 100," and am writing a book about my experiences over the last 54 years at the tracks I have visited.
My three "rules" for my quest are:1)Horses must be ridden not driven 2)There must be pari-mutual betting and 3)I must have bet there!

I grew up only 20 minutes over the mountain in NY State, so I had some days at Berkshire. I blame the $250 double that I hit there in the slop (Chrome and Kum Kum were the horses) for my lifelong pursuit of horse racing. Anyway, I was there with my parents the day that Dennis Strong stood up one lap before the finish of the marathon. There were some livid individuals who came out of the grandstand to greet the jock as he came back. People were shouting and tossing beverages and ice at him. Good thing it was the last race of the day.

Only went to Roosevelt once to bet a horse named P.A. Carlos. I remembered he ran out. My wife who I was dating back then went to Hofstra, just around the corner, ended up going to the track with friends before I ever got there. Very upsetting to me. Anyway, not being a harness fan, the night I went must have been in the early 70's. Don't remember much about the place except it was pretty big for a harness track.

I am looking for information and memories about my dear friend, Chester McGuire {Chet McGuire}. Raced at Foxboro and other area tracks during the 1960's and early 70's. His color were red/black/ white. One of the last horses he raced there was named "Sulky Steve" because he brought this horse to Kentucky with him. He leased this horse. I do not know the owners name. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I remember well standing on the picnic table in the backyard and watching the flames as Jefferson Downs burned down. I think it's amusing that Downs Blvd. is still named Downs, when most don't know where it came from.

Went there once in a driving rainstorm with a friend of mine. It was a very long drive and don't remember cashing a ticket. The rain was so heavy we couldn't even see the horses down the backstretch. We got soaked out on the apron as we watched our horse in the last race tire badly to send us home wet losers. Oh, to be 18 again.
